Airborne NEXRAD Weather Seminar
Please join us for a seminar conducted by Dr. David A. Strahle focusing on Datalink NEXRAD Weather Radar. This presentation deals with the understanding and interpretation of in-flight NEXRAD radar images including several examples of their precision.
An avid pilot, Dr. Strahle has a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Technology, earned his commercial pilot's license, instrument rating; basic, advanced, and instrument ground instructor's license; flight instructor's license, instrument flight instructor's license, and his ratings include multi-engine and sea plane.
In 1969 he wrote a research paper describing the far reaching benefits of transmitting weather to airborne aircraft including the initial steps of implementation. His paper won first place at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics research forum and his ideas were eventually published in Aero and Pilot magazines.
Throughout the past 40 years, Dr. Strahle has continued to privately support and nurture the datalink programs and formats including presentations on the proper use of datalink NEXRAD weather. Referred to as the "Godfather of Datalink", Dr. Strahle has conducted presentation for the Great Lakes International Aviation Conference, AOPA, NBAA, and the Flying Physicians Association.

Garmin Traffic Systems
Garmin announces that it has been granted an approved model list supplemental type certificate (AML-STC) for the GTS Series TAS and TCAS I traffic systems, the GTS 800, GTS 820, and GTS 850.
The GTS 800 traffic series combines active and passive surveillance data to pinpoint specific traffic threats. Each model creates a 360-degree zone of detection around the aircraft to allow pilots the ability to see and identify targets in their airspace that may pose a collision hazard. All GTS series products include Garmin's new "CLEAR CAS" (Correlated Location Enhanced ADS-B Receiver Collision Avoidance System) technology, a hybrid system that provides real-time information that is totally independent of radar-based air traffic control.
The GTS traffic series has been designed to be compatible with the NextGen system. It can track up to 60 targets at a time, identify the flight path of specific aircraft, and give spoken audio alerts in an ATC-like format so that pilots are able to react immediately to their surrounding traffic situation. Systems are now available for delivery.
